Online Dating Statistics - Free Essay Example

Statistics show that 57% of online daters lie to each other about various aspects of their life and this is just one downfall to online dating (Kaspersky 2018). First of all, people may present themselves differently online. Secondly, it is more difficult to assess a match without physical interaction. Lastly, you are more likely to meet a partner through a friend. Online dating is harmful to society because it allows people to be deceptive, it is often confusing and ineffective, and for most, disheartening. The way people present themselves online has a big impact on how others perceive you, which is why a lot of people present themselves differently. Studies show that 53% of US participants admitted to having lied in their online dating profile (Psychology Today 2018). It is proven that women lie more than men on their dating profiles, most lies involving looks, they might use pictures that are not of themselves or that are from previous years ago and no longer look like their present selves. A key factor that men lie about is their financial situation. They say they have a better job then they actually do, meaning they make more money than in reality; 40% of men indicated that they did this (Psychology Today 2018). This goes to show the saying â€Å"looks are deceiving† is real. Since dating online is nothing but talking through a screen, it lacks the basic fundamentals needed to assess a partner, which is physical interaction. Communicating only through a screen does not provide enough information that you get from face to face interaction. For example, touching can not be accomplished through a screen, and communicating online may have and unemotional, artificial quality. Secondly, people will judge you first on appearance. This one is obvious because if you have an exotic name and a beautiful picture on your profile, you are more likely to get a higher number of requests for people wanting to talk to you and meet up. Having met someone in person will immediately show you if you have chemistry and/or â€Å"click† with the person, versus online where you can not see facial expressions or reactions. Studies show that you are more likely to meet a match through a friend rather than online. 63% of married couples meet their partner through a friend (eharmony 2018). Meeting a partner through a friend is generally a better method considering the friend knows each person individually and would know if their personalities will match or not. Also the ones going on the date will feel more comfortable with each other since they know their friend would never set them up with someone who could possibly be dangerous. Finding a match through a friend is a much more safe and easy alternative to the online dating world. Online dating is harmful to society because it allows people to be deceptive, it’s often confusing and ineffective and for most, disheartening. People could present themselves to be a completely different person. Assessing a match without the basic fundamentals you get from face to face interactions such as touching (physical interaction) can make it hard to determine whether you are interested in this person or not. The rates are higher of people having successful relationships when they are introduced through a friend rather than online. All these factors are to be considered if you are thinking about joining the online dating world.

Myra Bradwell Lawyer and Womens Rights Advocate

Dates: February 12, 1831 - February 14, 1894 Occupation: lawyer, publisher, reformer, teacher Known for: pioneer woman lawyer, first woman in U.S. to practice law, subject of Bradwell v. Illinois Supreme Court decision, author of legislation for womens rights; first woman member of the Illinois Bar Association; first woman member of the Illinois Press Association; founding member of the Illinois Womans Press Association, the oldest organization of professional women writers Also known As: Myra Colby, Myra Colby Bradwell More About Myra Bradwell Though her background was in New England, descended on both sides from early Massachusetts settlers, Myra Bradwell is mainly associated with the Midwest, especially Chicago. Myra Bradwell was born in Vermont and lived with her family in New Yorks Genessee River Valley before the family moved to Schaumburg, Illinois, about 1843. She attended finishing school in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and then attended Elgin Female Seminary. There were no colleges in that part of the country that would admit women. After graduation, she taught for a year. Marriage Despite her familys opposition, Myra Bradwell married James Bolesworth Bradwell in 1852. He was descended from English immigrants and was a law student supporting himself through manual work. They moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and ran a private school together as he continued to study law. Their first child, Myra, was born in 1854. James was admitted to the Tennessee bar, and then the family moved to Chicago where James was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1855. He opened a law firm in partnership with Frank Colby, Myras brother. Myra Bradwell began to read law with her husband; no law school of the time would have admitted women. She conceived of her marriage as a partnership and used her growing legal knowledge to help her husband, taking care of the couples four children and household while also helping at James law office. In 1861, James was elected as a Cook County judge. Civil War and Aftermath When the Civil War began, Myra Bradwell became active in support efforts. She joined the Sanitary Commission and, with Mary Livermore, was involved in organizing a successful fund-raising fair in Chicago, to provide supplies and other support for the Commissions work. Mary Livermore and others she met in this work were active in the woman suffrage movement. At the end of the war, Myra Bradwell continued her support work by becoming active in, and president of, the Soldiers Aid Society, raising funds to support the families of soldiers. After the war, the suffrage movement split over strategic priorities of rights for African American men and womens rights, especially related to the passage of the Fourteenth Amendment. Myra Bradwell joined the faction including Lucy Stone, Julia Ward Howe, and Frederick Douglass that supported the Fourteenth Amendment as essential to guaranteeing black equality and full citizenship, even though it was flawed in only applying voting rights to males. She joined with these allies in founding the American Woman Suffrage Association. Legal Leadership In 1868, Myra Bradwell founded a regional legal newspaper, Chicago Legal News, and became both editor and business manager. The paper became a leading legal voice in the western United States. In editorials, Blackwell supported many of the progressive reforms of her time, from womens rights to the establishment of law schools. The newspaper and the associated printing business flourished under Myra Blackwells leadership. Bradwell was involved in extending married womens property rights. In 1869, she used her legal knowledge and skills to draft a law to protect the earnings of married women, and she also helped to protect the interest of widows in their husbands estates. Applying to the Bar In 1869, Bradwell took and passed with high honors the Illinois bar exam. Expecting to be admitted quietly to the bar, because Arabella Mansfield had been granted a license in Iowa (though Mansfield never actually practiced law), Bradwell was turned down. First, the Illinois Supreme Court found that she was disabled as a married woman since a married woman did not have separate legal existence from her husband and could not even sign legal contracts. Then, on a rehearing, the Supreme Court found that simply being a woman disqualified Bradwell. Myra v. Bradwell Supreme Court Decision Myra Bradwell appealed the decision to the United States Supreme Court, on the grounds of the Fourteenth Amendments equal protection provision. But in 1872, the court in Bradwell v. Illinois upheld the Illinois Supreme Courts decision to deny her admission to the bar, ruling that the Fourteenth Amendment did not require states to open the legal profession to women. The case didnt distract Bradwell from further work. She was instrumental in the consideration of extending the vote to women in the 1870 state constitution in Illinois. In 1871, the papers offices and printing plant were destroyed in the Chicago Fire. Myra Bradwell was able to get the paper published in time by using facilities in Milwaukee. The Illinois legislature granted the printing company the contract to republish official records lost in the fire. Before Bradwell v. Illinois was decided, Myra Bradwell and another woman whose application had also been denied by the Illinois Supreme Court joined forces in drafting a stature to allow both men and women admission into any profession or occupation. Before the U.S. Supreme Courts decision, Illinois had opened up the legal profession to women. But Myra Blackwell did not submit a new application. Later Work In 1875, Myra Blackwell took up the cause of Mary Todd Lincoln, involuntarily committed to an insane asylum by her son, Robert Todd Lincoln. Myras work helped win Mrs. Lincolns release. In 1876, in recognition of her role as a civic leader, Myra Bradwell was one of Illinois representatives to the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. In 1882, Bradwells daughter graduated from law school and became a lawyer. An honorary member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Myra Bradwell served as its vice president for four terms. In 1885, when the Illinois Womans Press Association was founded, the first women writers elected Myra Bradwell its president. She did not accept that office, but she did join the group and is counted among the founders. (Frances Willard and Sarah Hackett Stevenson were also among those who joined in the first year.) Closing Acts In 1888, Chicago was selected as the site for the Worlds Columbian Exposition, with Myra Bradwell being one of the key lobbyists winning that selection. In 1890, Myra Bradwell was finally admitted to the Illinois bar, on the basis of her original application. In 1892, the United States Supreme Court granted her a license to practice before that court. In 1893, Myra Bradwell was already suffering from cancer, but was one of the lady managers for the Worlds Columbian Exposition, and chaired the committee on law reform at one of the congresses held in conjunction with the exposition. She attended in a wheelchair. She died in Chicago in February 1894. The daughter of Myra and James Bradwell, Bessie Helmer, continued to publish the Chicago Legal News until 1925. Review Of O Conner - 1350 Words

Although we read multiple stories by Flannery O’Conner, there are many similar qualities in the works. O’Conner pays special attention to the realistic detail and finds the truth that lies beneath the surface of language and self image. She often uses violence that shocks the reader to uncover this truth. Although different in each work, she is able to incorporate a moment of grace in A Good Man is Hard to Find, Good Country People, and Everything That Rises Must Converge. O Connor consistently produced fiction having an implicit, if not a totally explicit, religious world view as an integral element of each work. Even though O Connor was, according to all available evidence, a devout Catholic, she did not let her religious conservatism†¦show more content†¦At one point during the drive, the grandmother accidentally kicked her feet, which startled the cat and caused Bailey – the driver – to lose control of the car and they end up in a ditch. The c ar that stopped to help the family ended up being The Misfit and two other men. These two men take John Wesley and Bailey into the forest where they end up shooting them. When they come back to the car they take June Star, the children’s mother, and the baby and kill all of them as well. The grandmother pleads for her life – although she never once asked for her family to be saved. After The Misfit and the grandmother talk about Jesus and religion, the grandmother claims that he is â€Å"one of her own children† (433) and then he shoots her in the chest three times. At the end, The Misfit says the grandmother could have been a good woman if there was always someone there to shoot her and then claims that life has no true pleasure. Throughout this story, there is a theme of the unlikely recipients of grace. Despite their sins and flaws, both the grandmother and The Misfit receive grace in the end. The grandmother believes she is morally superior and that she ca n judge other people. She lies, she manipulates, and she does not have any self-awareness. She tells The Misfit to pray yet she herself cannot formulate her own prayer. The Misfit does not seem like he deserves grace, as he is an unrepentant murderer. However, as unlikely as it is,

Drivers of Product Quality Improvement †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Drivers of Product Quality Improvement. Answer: Introduction: The goal of any business organization that gets into the market with a product or a service is to make a profit from the selling the good or the service from the customers. Before a decision is made regarding a particular product production, there must be a gap in the market that should be existing that should be catered for. The difference in this context implies a difference between supply and demand. Consumer needs are usually the main trigger towards the production of a particular commodity or service. However, how much better an organization produces a helpful product, marketing plays a critical as it determines the success rate of the same product. The marketing strategy that should be embraced by a particular organization should be in a position to convince new customers on the purpose of the product as well as maintain an existing customer. In other words, any production and marketing of a particular product or service should be aim at the sustainability of the business in th e days to come. Technology has been in the lead as far as marketing of the goods and services is concerned in the 21st century. The marketing strategy applied should be efficient and convenient to ensure that whenever an organization gets to the market will not make losses but instead make a profit. One of the products that have been doing well in the market is Anza espresso machine which provides solves a problem of making coffee in the hotel industry. In the course of this research, the concentration will be directed to marketing aspects that are related to Anza espresso and how it has been in successfully been maintained in the market in the competitive business world. One of the industries that in the global business perspective that is growing at an alarming rate is the hotel industries. The number of customers who are being served in the local and international hotels is increasing annually. The law of demands and supply tend to be applied in that with the increase in the number of the customers; the demand goes up which is relative to the increase in the profit until a certain point when the increase will be constant. Despite the market expanding, the number of organizations who are getting into the industry to utilize the opportunity is also growing at an alarming rate. After the industry started experiencing the full impact of the law of demand and supply, the only remaining thing is to come up with a mechanism to lower operational costs as well as improve quality to attract more customers and maximize profits. As a result of this Anza espresso machine which is an electronic equipment that will develop the strong coffee taste is introduced in the market. Anza espresso machine aims at reducing the number of employees who are employed in a particular organization to offer their services. When the appliance is introduced into an organization, some of the recurring costs such as salaries and allowances is reduced while on the hand they increase the quality of the services they to the customers. Anza espresso machine is ideologically designed in a manner that it enhances portability as well as save on the space. The appliance is available with white and wood details by weighing 15 Kg making it easy to carry and handle (Cruz et al., 2012). The product is meant for the Australian market and will be released at an affordable price that favors the market. One of the reasons as to why the idea of introducing the Anza espresso is due to the need of the hotel industry to revive the concept of strong coffee which is increasing on a daily basis. Despite the fact that that the concept of strong coffee exists, the experience needs to be advanced to a level that the customers will be fully satisfied. Also, in the past couple of years, coffee consumption has increased annually. The high consumption rate implies that the market is growing regarding demand and something should be done to close the gap. Black coffee, in particular, has attracted the majority of the consumers which requires a specialized tool to make it in bulk and maintain the taste as per the expectation of the customers. From the market research conducted 2014, the consumers of the black coffee are the parents. Marketing of the Anza espresso machine As stated earlier, the market is the primary success determinant as this will be showing what is required in ensuring that the customers are aware of a new product that is released in the market. For the organization to succeed in the marketing of the product, both the primary and secondary marketing techniques should be used to reach out the customers and increase the level of acceptance. Before deciding on a particular product or service marketing, it is advisable for an organization to research to ensure that it gathers the required information that will be of importance in the release of the product. Gathering of research in the market helps the organization to identify the issues that exist in the market that can lead to failure. Also, the organization will be in a position to understand the various competitors that are in the market before the release of the product and the strategies they utilize to remain competitive. Primary techniques of information gathering in this contex t include the use of surveys, Questionnaires and focus groups. The three primary methods primarily aim at meeting the stakeholders on direct contact basis to ensure that they give the information that is relevant regarding a particular activity. The interested parties in this context are all those individuals who either directly or indirectly are involved in the production as well as consumption of the product. It covers the community, the government, the consumers and the employees of the organization that is involved in the production of the product. Stakeholders engagement Involving the stakeholders enhances the acceptance rate of a particular as it develops a sense of ownership among them. For example, when the government is involved in the production of a particular product and service, it responds by giving the required standards of operation of the product. The government aims at ensuring that the laws regarding a particular product and service production are followed to the letter. Therefore, this prevents the organization from being involved in an activity that does not enhance public protection. Also, when the market and the community are participating in a production information gathering as stakeholders, the acceptance of the product or service is much higher. Some beliefs are usually within a particular community that many at times hinder the success of a product. For instance, if the community beliefs that are consuming a particular product or service will affect its people negatively, no matter how good the product and solving a particular problem, it will not be accepted. In the community, there dwells the customers and the market where an organization aims at. The consumers are the main reason as to why a particular idea is implemented. It is important to first understand the scope of the problems of the problem before being involved an attempt of solving it. When the customers are consulted before the release of a particular product, they become aware of what is going and thus when the actual implementation comes, the chances of failure of the product will be reduced. They become part of the product production an as well as they are involved in the marketing. The final and very crucial aspect of production is the employees' involvement. When the employees are involved in the production activity, there are high chances that the expectation of the organization is met with ease. An organization may proceed and gather information from the external sources, but the implementers of the ideas are the employees. When the e mployees are less involved in the decision-making process, the final product will have faults or even fail to address the issues raised by the customers. An organization involves it employees through proper communication to make them aware of the goals and what the customers' needs are. On the other hand, secondary techniques of information gathering involve use of journals, articles, and the internet (Zikmund et al., 2014). In the secondary information gathering, it involves making the organization aware of what other researchers did regarding a particular product. The research conducted saves the organization from being involved in an activity that other organizations participated in and failed. Also, the organization is made aware of the current status of the market before actualizing an idea. When the organization is aware of what is taking place outside the organization, it produces products that are in line with the expectation of the customers. Instances that may lead to the failure of the organization are avoided at all cost. The information collected using secondary methodologies is subjected to quantitative analysis through statistics and table formats. Analysis helps to determine the various factors that are to be considered in the production activity. Th e management usually, sets a benchmark which will be used in the production and when a deviation is experienced correction can be made with immediate effect. The analysis, in this case, involves the marketing strategies used by the various related companies in their production. The best strategy is adopted which promotes the success of the organization. Market Assessment and demand assessment Before the organization decides to adopt a particular marketing strategy, there is need to have an assessment done to the market to identify the various factors that may impact the process of marketing both positively and negatively. One of the assessments that should be highly considered consumption behavior of the product idea in this context Anza espresso machine. This usually starts with the feasibility study to identify the market opportunities. In the context of Anza espresso, the assessment that should conduct should focus on the factors that are making consumption of strong Black coffee go up. In this regard, the company should consider the market population that is making the hike in demand. In this case, coffee is largely consumed by the youth and the working women who prefer the beverage to other drinks such as tea (Biotto et al., 2012). Therefore, in the design of the appliance, it should consider the taste and preference of the youth and women to ensure that only what is relevant is incorporated. The taste and preference should also consider what the competitors are offering and how they should make it unique. Sustainability issues should also be considered as this will determine if the product will be long term or short term. If the factors are not favorable for the long-term success of the market, they should be avoided at all costs. In the market and demand assessment, marketing mix model should be considered. In this case, the Four Ps model is considered as they will influence customer purchasing decision. The four Ps are product, price, promotion, and place. In this context, Anza espresso is the result which is designed with features that favor usability. The machine as initially stated is portable and lightweight. The price, in this case, should be set in a way that the customers get the real values of their money. The price should also be in line within the range of the various competitors. Promotion involves how marketing will be done. In this case, Anza espresso will utilize the use of modern technology in the marketing. Finally, the place discusses the target market and the timing. Anza espresso will be made available in the Australian electrical market by 2018 according to Luan and Sudhir (2010). References Biotto, M., De Toni, A. F., Nonino, F. (2012). He pretty much saw everything and everyone as a joke but the only person who he didnt fool was nurse Ratchet. He thought that he would be able to leave in a couple of months, the time of his sentence in the work camp, until he found out that he wouldnt be allowed to leave. We will write a custom essay on Thomas Evans specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now After a few days he began to see the patients as a group that needed more enjoyment in their lives and he wanted to try to find some way that they could get out and go to a bar and watch the world series. The nursing staff seemed uncaring to their lack of enjoyment to life and basically refused to allow the patients to even watch the game on the TV during their chores even after having took a vote where a mute patient nicknamed Chief for the first time communicated that he wanted to watch the game. McMurphy had befriended Chief and later discovered that he was not deaf and dumb but was only faking his muteness and they planed to escape together. McMurphy later found out that many of these patients were here only because they put themselves here and didnt want to leave even though they had the option to. He tried his best to bring some life to these patients such as teaching them to play poker and gambling for cigarettes. He even went so far as to escape over a fence only to open the gate and to get the patients onto a nearby bus and drive them to the docks where he took them on a fishing trip. Also he arranged for his girlfriend and a prostitute to come to the institution at night with some alcohol and had a little party for them before he decided he was going to escape. The next morning one of the patients who was suicidal was found by the nurses in bed with the prostitute. Nurse Ratchet told him that he would tell his mother what he had done and the patient was found later dead on the floor from having had slashed his own throat. McMurphy never did leave and he was given a form of therapy called ECT, electro-convulsive therapy, and after many sessions this left him in a near-comatose state. One night, Chief had killed McMurphy out of pity for him as he thought it was undignified that they had taken nearly all of his humanity and the movie ended with Chief escaping after it had been said that it couldnt be done. Electrodes are attached to the temples and a strong electrical shock is given, enough that convulsions are produced. This application of current induces unconsciousness so it becomes nearly impossible for the patients to recall the treatment. The patients are given a sedative beforehand and are also given muscle-relaxants because the shock produces such strong convulsions that the patients would otherwise flail about wildly sometimes breaking bones. With these muscle-relaxants the convulsions are barely noticeable to any onlookers. Also this form of therapy is not given to patients that have heart-problems or high blood pressure. .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c , .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .postImageUrl , .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c , .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c:hover , .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c:visited , .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c:active { border:0!important; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c:active , .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u50cb139dbad2b57aafbaa887e6aa120c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Romeo And Juliet Tragedy EssayECT has been under much controversy for many reasons. Many professionals dislike the idea of passing electric current through the head that produces convulsions, even if they are given sedatives before hand. There is also the side effects. There is disruption in the recall of recent events and some patients suffer this lapse of memory on a permanent basis. No one seems to know how ECT works and for reasons stated above, it was outlawed in California but later overturned by the courts.

Top 5 part-time jobs for seniors who are retired and need some extra cash

Top 5 part-time jobs for seniors who are retired and need some extra cash If you’re part of the Baby Boomer generation, you’ve probably been around the block, career-wise. You may be retiring from your long-term career, or find yourself looking for a change of pace for the next phase of your work life. As you hit a certain age, people may expect you to slow down and retire, but if you’re not ready for that (either financially or personally), there are lots of great part-time jobs for seniors. These opportunities can help you redefine what â€Å"retirement age† really means. Part-time jobs can be ideal for working seniors. The schedule is flexible, and you can build skills and experience without committing to a full-time gig. It’s especially ideal for retirees looking to add extra income without going back to the full-time grind, allowing you to balance work with outside interests, social time, and personal needs.Let’s take a closer look at some of the best part-time opportunities out there for Boomers.Seasonal Reta il AssociateThis is the classic part-time job. Stores frequently hire part-time associates to pitch in during particularly busy seasons, like the holidays. And it’s not just Christmas shopping; you may also see opportunities in spring and summer at home improvement stores or garden centers. If you have a green thumb and a pleasant customer-service mindset, then that can be a good option for you. Seasonal retail associates typically help with the day-to-day operations of the store: stocking shelves, assisting customers, acting as cashier, taking inventory, and other in-store tasks as needed. What you’ll need: Retail experience helps, but isn’t always necessary; most stores will provide on-site training. Strong customer service skills are a must, and good organization and math skills are very helpful as well. What it pays: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, retail sales associates make a median salary of $11.01 per hour. This can vary depending on exp erience level.Rideshare DriverIt may be time to get in on the â€Å"gig economy† trend if you’re looking for a part-time job with flexibility and control over your own hours. If you’ve got a valid driver’s license and a car in good shape, you may be able to drive for companies like Uber and Lyft. Drivers have total control over when they’re on the clock, so it’s a flexible option for your preferred schedule. And if you’re interested in night owl work, you can make solid money with late-night fares- especially if you live near a city or other area with a strong nightlife scene. What you’ll need: A valid driver’s license, a car that can pass a rigorous vehicle inspection, and a clean driving record. Most companies require their drivers pass a comprehensive background screening as well. What it pays: The median national hourly rate for rideshare drivers is $19.04, but drivers can make $30-40 an hour, plus tips, depending on h ow many fares they’re picking up. It can also vary according to your location.Teacher Assistant/ParaprofessionalThese educational professionals work in the classroom alongside teachers, helping students and teachers with day-to-day activities. Unlike standard teaching, teacher assistants (also known as paraprofessionals) may work on a part-time basis, coming into the classroom for a few hours per day or a few days per week. These professionals can be found in schools at every level: daycare, elementary, middle, and high schools. Their tasks can include managing classroom behavior or activities; helping teachers grade student work or plan lessons; preparing classroom equipment or technology; tutoring students who need extra help; taking attendance; assisting students who have special needs; or monitoring students during activities or lunch. What you’ll need: Teacher assistants typically don’t need a four-year degree, but an associate’s degree or background in education certainly helps. Strong organizational skills, good communication skills (both written and verbal), teaching skills, and kid-friendliness are all assets in this field. Most states also require some form of certification for paraprofessionals, including passing a standardized exam, so be sure to confirm what your state or school district requires. What it pays: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, paraprofessionals earn a median salary of $25,410 per year. This can vary according to location, and paraprofessionals who are multilingual, or who specialize in areas like special needs or special education, tend to be in high demand.Substitute TeacherIf you’ve got a background in education or subject matter expertise, then becoming a substitute teacher can be a good part-time option. Substitute teachers step in when the regular teacher is out and maintain order and progress in a particular classroom. Substitute teachers may be short-term (covering a teacher ’s sick day) or long-term (covering, say, a teacher’s maternity leave or other longer absence), and assignments are typically accepted at the discretion of the sub. So if you’re looking for a job with flexible daytime hours (and summers off), it may be a great choice.Substitute teacher duties typically include teaching lessons or managing activities as outlined by the full-time teacher; developing lesson plans for longer-term assignments; managing student behavior in the classroom and ensuring schedules stay on track; or participating in other school activities as needed, like cafeteria monitoring, bus monitoring, before- or after-school care, etc. What you’ll need: Requirements can really vary by state, town, school district, and even school, so it’s essential to be familiar with the needs and rules of your target school/location. Some states require substitute teachers to hold specific teacher certification and a four-year degree, while others sim ply require a high school diploma. Skill-wise, you’ll need strong teaching skills, good organizational/management skills, and a good amount of flexibility. What it pays: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for substitute teachers is $30,900, or $14.86 per hour. This can vary depending on the substitute teacher’s experience, as well as the state and type of school.InternUsually when we think of interns, we think of eager young students or recent grads, trying to get a foothold in the industry where they want to build their careers. But there’s actually a growing trend where older employees are turning to internships to either change careers, or get back into the workplace. These â€Å"relaunch† internships are a way for companies to engage with a huge potential pool of employees, and a chance for people of any age to build skills and experience, or transition to a new job.According to U.S. News and World Report, these internships can be especially well-suited for post-retirees or other employees who may not need full benefits or are willing to accept a junior-level salary compared to what they may have been making before. What you’ll need: It helps to have some knowledge of the company or field you’re entering, but an internship is all about building experience from the ground up, so it’s important to have a strong base of skills like organization and communication. A willingness to learn and adapt is essential, and you should also be willing to accept junior employee status. What it pays: Internships can vary widely by industry, ranging from unpaid internships to stipends or entry-level salaries.Baby Boomers and Seniors have always been the trendsetters, so it makes sense that would continue in the employment world even after they’ve passed into the traditional retirement zone. Your career path is yours to seize at any age, so if you’re looking for non-full-time opportunities, there’s likely something to meet your financial needs, scheduling needs, and interests.

Paper on Display Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Paper on Display - Essay Example From the center, a cloth runs from top to bottom vertically covering almost three-quarters of the black background. The cloth has a mixture of colors and artistic display resembling the feathers of an ostrich. From three-quarter of the height there is a yellow strip running from one side to the other horizontally forming the letter â€Å"X†. The yellow strip is labelled with the words caution and it also runs across the bottom. The yellow strip line is significant as it arouses the curiosity of the onlooker, to have the urge of finding what is happening at that section. On the vertical section, a number of pictures are displayed showing a woman probably â€Å"Madonna† wearing almost similar clothes with the sample cloth shown. At the center, there is a smaller bedroom drawer placed with some of it compartments slightly opened. Hanging from inside the drawer are probably white net-like bras. At the top of the drawer, there is a glass frame that covers a white paper inside with details of the sample items displayed. To the left of the screen there are two black boxes of different sizes the smaller one on top of the bigger one. Two pictures of woman â€Å"black and white† are attached at the sides of the larger box. On top of the larger box a tablet leans on the smaller box in an upright manner. On the tablet display a woman â€Å"Madonna† is seen singing. On top of the lower box a pair of high heeled boots-like ladies shoes are placed on a white cardboard. To the right hand corner of the display, there is a â€Å"lady puppet† position in a half-sitting-standing position. The â€Å"puppet† is dressed with a long black net sleeved blouse. The white net-skirt also barely reaches the knees. On the hands of the â€Å"puppet† there is a silver like bracelet to complement the outfit. On the neck there are various shiny necklaces. However, there is one long necklace with a diamond like structure at its end. There is also a black belt that is tied around the

Rewriting Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Rewriting - Essay Example Nevertheless, she was able to go through education system and began to be exposed to people speaking other languages later in life. Although she was able to acquire language skills, she did it at a slow pace. The most interesting observation was that her level of understanding new language was not as profound as found in children who acquire language skills at early age. Despite following similar procedures of language acquisition, she could not meet the standards acquired by young children who learn language naturally. However, other cognitive abilities were not inhibited. Despite her problem in language acquisition, she was able to develop interactive skills and could therefore understand different communication styles from other people. Whereas her language acquisition skills lagged behind, other cognitive abilities were not inhibited in any way. This example is a clear indicator that language acquisition is independent of other cognitive abilities. It is worth noting the contrast of this idea with Moskowitz’s ideology, which claims that the two are connected. He feels that linguistic specialization is part of human intelligence, which implies that none can be developed

Mellor on the Chances of Effects :: Philosophy Philosophical Essays

Mellor on the Chances of Effects* ABSTRACT: In the Facts of Causation (1995), D.H. Mellor includes, as a part of his theory of causation, an account of the chance that a cause gives its effect. He proposes that this chance can be analyzed as a certain kind of conditional, a closest world conditional with a chance consequent. I show that there are problems with Mellor’s account, but also attempt to show how these can be remedied. This analysis highlights important issues concerning the concept of components of single case objective chance. Mellor takes the chance he is concerned with to be objective single case chance measured by the probability calculus. It is not frequency nor credence, although it has important connections to both frequencies and credences.(1) According to Mellor facts which have chances can have more than one chance, for example, by having them at different times. Suppose we have two unstable atoms A and B in close proximity, each of which has a low chance of decaying, and suppose that atom A, if it decays, may bombard atom B with its product, thereby driving atom B into a state in which its chance of decaying is quite high- much higher than otherwise (see figure 1). Suppose this in fact happens, and let us consider the chance E that atom B will decay at a later time tE, when an observation will be made. The chance of E changes—increases, in fact—at tb, the time at which B is bombarded. Thus E has two chances, at different times. Mellor also holds that chances are contingent, but not on the fact that they are "chances of" (in our example, E), since they can exist when that fact does not. Atom B may not decay at t0, but it still had a chance of doing so prior to that time; so the chance existed but the state of affairs that it was about never did. Since chances are contingent, they must therefore be properties of other facts, facts without which they would not exist. The chance E that atom B will decay at time t0 is a property of facts about the structure and nature of that atom, together with facts concerning the nature and proximity of atom A. Mellor writes this chance as "chQ(E)" where Q is the fact or conjunctive fact of which the chance is a property. Applying this to the case of causation, the chance of the effect is a property not of the effect but of another fact, the cause C or the conjunction of C and S, where S is the circumstances in which C causes E.

Highway Robbery Essay

It was in the middle of the night, there was a carriage carrying gold and silver. It was on its way to Yorkshire. There was a guard with a rifle on the lookout for anything suspicious or threatening. There were people inside, chatting about the riches that were in their hands. The driver was driving the carriage; it had four horses pulling it. There was a co-driver as well, he was there in case anything happened to the driver. There was a man riding a horse, they were usually known as, â€Å"Highwaymen†, they stole from carriages and they were all aware that â€Å"Highwaymen† existed. Before the carriage got to the Highwayman’s location, the Highwayman cut down a tree with his axe, the tree obstructed the path of the road. Once the carriage got to the tree, it stopped, it was a very quiet place, no houses in sight, no people in sight, and it was in the pure country side. The guard got down from the carriage to take a look. He got very suspicious and had his rifle ready. The Highwayman with his horse hid behind a tree, silently. Then, suddenly the Highwayman leapt out of the woods and on to the road, he shouted â€Å"Give me all of your treasures, or die†. The Highwayman pointed his pistols at the guard. The guard slowly put down his rifle, and the richest man offered the riches to the Highwayman, then the slightly poorer people offered their treasures. Then the Highwayman, swiftly, rode off, in to the gloomy night. But then, the guard quickly, but silently picked up his rifle and started shooting at the Highwayman, but by then, the Highwayman had gone, and it was too late. By Matthew Williams

Learning Mandarin vs Cantonese

Mandarin Chinese is the official language of Mainland China and Taiwan, but it is not the only language spoken in the Chinese world. Besides the regional variations of Mandarin, there are several Chinese languages which are mutually unintelligible with Mandarin. Cantonese is one of these languages. Cantonese is spoken in Guangdong and Guangxi provinces, Hainan Island, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia and many overseas Chinese communities. Worldwide, there are about 66 million Cantonese speakers. Compare this with Mandarin, which is spoken by about 1 billion people worldwide. Of all languages, Mandarin is the most widely-spoken. Is It Better To Learn Cantonese? With 66 million speakers, Cantonese cannot be considered an impractical language to learn. If your main objective, however, is to do business or travel in Mainland China, you would be better off learning Mandarin. But if you want to do business in Hong Kong or Guangdong Province, is it better to learn Cantonese? Consider these points taken from hanyu.com: Cantonese has a lack of good learning materials.Cantonese does not have a standard Romanization system (like Pinyin for Mandarin). Yale Romanization is most commonly used in textbooks, but it is unknown to native Cantonese speakers.Cantonese is heard less often in Overseas Chinese communities as new Mandarin-speaking immigrants arrive from Mainland China. And Cantonese speakers are increasingly learning Mandarin to find work in Mainland China. So it seems as though Mandarin is more practical than Cantonese. That’s not to say that learning Cantonese is a waste of time, and for some people it may be the better choice, but for most people wanting to speak Chinese, Mandarin is the way to go.
